You spent about half an hour outside Sirius’ door contemplating what to do next. You eventually came to the conclusion that sitting there and catching a cold wouldn’t help you in any way. So after about another fifteen minutes you got up and walked to your dorm. Not having been able to check the time you had no clue if your dormmates were awake yet. Still climbing down the stairs from the boy’s dormitories towards the common room, you started devising an excuse for where you had been the previous night. Being so immersed in your thoughts you just about heard a voice coming from the common room as you intended on entering. Some students must have slept there. You were intrigued by the conversation so you started to eavesdrop.
“Do you think she’s still up there with him?” asked a girl’s voice you recognized as Lily Evans’.
Remus Lupin replied, “Yeah she probably spent the night up there. She was just way too drunk to have been able to go back to her dorm.”
“I hope he took good care of her,” she stated with a mix of worry and anger in her tone.
“I know he seems like a complete idiot all the time but he’s actually a good guy and he’s been into Y/N for a while now.” His understanding and calm voice relaxed Lily.
You finally found the courage to step into the common room leaving your two friends startled. They obviously hoped you hadn’t overheard their conversation. Fortunately, you did but you pretended like you had just come down the stairs.
“Hey you guys, whatcha talkin’ about?” You asked calmly while also smiling widely at the two. You had always been a good actor, able to hide your true emotions behind a facade of smiles and laughter. This was also exactly what you were doing at this moment.
Lily was the first to speak, “ About nothing important really, just about last night.” She, just like you, was also able to quickly hide the uncertainty that had come up in her when you entered the room. “And by the way,” she added “What happened to you? I last saw you flirting with Sirius.” There was a somewhat superior look in her eyes but she didn’t know what you overheard.
“Oh well, I actually spent the night with some seventh year. Don’t remember his name but he was really sweet and we made out quite a lot. He ended up letting me spend the night ‘cause I was so pissed.” You replied, putting on the most innocent smile I had.
Lupin scoffed which quickly made you unsure if you heard every important part of the conversation. However, you weren’t going to let your scepticism show.
“Want to say something, Remus?” You asked walking away from the entrance to the stairs and toward the couch, both of them were sitting on.
Remus finally decided to speak yet you wished he hadn’t because you would have never imagined Remus to get this loud. Though he began with a slow and calm voice, “Y/N…stop lying to yourself and everyone else, especially Sirius. He just spent the night looking after you but instead of being thankful you rather make up a story to not have questions asked.” His face had now changed from an innocent and comforting look to a chilling, determined expression. He was also beginning to scare you with his tone and even Lily looked surprised but supportive nonetheless, of what Remus was accusing you of. “I mean pluck up some fucking courage, would you! It’s too obvious you are head over heels for him. You’re in bloody Gryffindor. What the hell are you frightened of?” Well at the moment you, to be honest, you thought.
You were startled and you couldn’t think of an answer straight away but then it hit you: What should you have done? You didn’t have a clue Sirius was in any way interested in you romantically. So now anger was building up inside of you towards your friends for not telling you about this earlier. “Are you being serious right now? And don’t you dare laugh at that!” You hissed making their small self-righteous smiles immediately disappear. “How the hell was I supposed to pluck up the courage when the person I have wanted to ask out for ages is the ‘player of Gryffindor Tower’?”
“Just Gryffindor Tower? More like, I dunno maybe…the whole school. Don’t you think?” The raspy voice coming from behind made you feel like someone hit you with a stunning spell. Unable to move, you heard the figure coming up to you from behind. He walked passed you, accidentally grazing your arm in the process. Then he immediately stepped in front of you, trying to meet your gaze.
“Hello, there again,” he said smiling widely at you.
But all you could do now was turn on your heels and run to the girls’ dorm rooms. Shit…shit…shit! That was the only thing you could think right now as you were running up the stairs. You reached the door to your dorm panting profusely. After catching your breath you quickly entered your dorm throwing yourself onto your bed, not caring whether you wake up your dormmates. You half expected Lily to burst through the door or your dormmates waking up and complaining about the noise but everything stayed quiet. So you, feeling completely and utterly humiliated, started to cry.
